ArcaVir for Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD and OpenBSD on the Intel x86 platform was created in response to the need of limiting the expansion of viruses through the electronic mail.

There are two versions - free and commercial.

We advice the user to integrate it with amavis-new or another similar program for unpacking attachments. This version can also be used for periodical scanning of files on the samba server.

Free version

The free-of-charge license shall entail the right to install and use arcavir or arcavir and arcavird programs (under the following operating systems Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, Solaris) on any number of computers after the below conditions have been fulfilled:

  1. a report containing the names of viruses detected with he help of the program is sent regularly at least once a month to the address: report_linux@arcabit.com. The report shall be in form of a text file, containing at least the name of a virus (worm, Trojan). Reports may be sent more often (once a week, daily) and may be compressed (gzip or bzip2).

  2. an advertisement of ArcaVir program is presented on Web sites or in electronic messages (one out of the two) along with the information on the use of arcavir program and link to the Manufacturer’s Web site. Should those conditions be impossible to fulfill, please contact our sales department: office@arcabit.com and linux@arcabit.com.

The license holder shall have the right to:

  1. install and use arcavir and arcavird programs (under the following operating systems: Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, Solaris) on the number of computers specified in the license, (a computer shall be understood as the main board with any number of processors);

In case of any problems, we would like to invite our customers to attach a suitable fragment of the log, description of the problem and tested files or e-mail messages packed with the help of tar, gzip or bzip2 program to the email message addressed to us.

Current versions and virus definitions

Binary versions are available in the Download section.

The most recent virus definitions should be downloaded with the help of arcaupdate script. (included in the binary package). For the purpose of verifying the correctness of definitions use PGP 2.6.3i public key.

Notice! The script has been tested on the Linux system. In case of *BSD systems, the md5sum port from Linux is required. (GNU textutils or coreutils).

Alternatively, you can download definitions using rsync from download.arcabit.pl::ArcaLinux.

Virus definitions are updated every day. In the event of sudden infections, they can be modified several times per day.
